 Program Highlights:

The Health Department provides oral cancer education and refers Somerset County residents to a dentist or physician. We do not pay for screening at this time. A physician or dentist should be consulted if any of the following signs and symptoms are present more than two-three weeks:

• A white or red patch in the mouth may be painless
• A sore, irritation, lump or thickening of the mouth, neck
• Hoarseness or felling that something is caught in the throat
• Difficulty moving the tongue or jaw
• Numbness of the tongue or other areas of the mouth
• Swelling of the jaw that causes dentures to fit poorly or become uncomfortable
