HIV/AIDS Prevention
HIV and AIDS Prevention education and materials are provided to the community on individual basis and in group setting in an effort to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS.

Resource Services Include:
- Public presentations to community agencies, schools, churches, social organizations, and places of business
- Participation in health fairs, neighborhood events, and community gatherings
- Information provided in Health Department programs such as Addictions, Family Planning, Healthy Start, and Sexually Transmitted Disease
- Community resource referrals
- Work witht the migrant population by providing screensings and education on HIV/AIDS
- Confidential testing
Qualifications: Somerset County Residents

The Health Promotions & Disease Prevention Department sponsors an event at UMES one time a year (Halloween) where they fill "goodie" bags with STD prevention literature, condoms, and candy and distribute them to all the students who are housed on campus (currently, approximately 2500). There is also an STD Clinic at the Health Department that is staffed by the Communicable Disease Department. Information on STD's is always available at the Health Department through the Communicable Disease staff. (Refer to the Communicable Disease link for more information on their programs.)
