Answers:

1.  How do I get birth control?
The Health Department provides many methods of birth control to anyone who is sexually active or thinking of becoming sexually active. Parental permission is not require, but encouraged. Call 443-523-1740 for an appointment.

2.  How do I get a pregnancy test?
If you have missed your period by one week and you think you may be pregnant, you can walk in to the Health Department on Thursday mornings for a pregnancy test.  There is no charge.

3.  How can I obtain a drug and/or alcohol evaluation?
Call Behavioral Health to schedule a private and confidential substance abuse assessment.  We also accept walk-ins any time between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays at our main office in Westover.

5.  Is transportation available for medical assistance clients?
Yes, if you have an active medical assistance card and you need transportation for a covered medical assistance service.  See MA Transportation for information on how to have your transportation scheduled.

6.  What are your charges?
We accept Medical Assistance, Medicare, and private insurance.  If you do not have insurance or assistance, a sliding fee scale is used to make treatment affordable for everyone who needs it.  Your fee, if any, will be discussed and arranged during your first visit to the Health Department.

6.  How do I get a copy of  my birth certificate?
You will need to obtain your birth certificate from the state you were born in.  Click here for more information.

7.  What is a perc test, and when can I have a perc test conducted?
A perc test is a procedure used to determine the rate at which water or sewage effluent will percolate through the soil and are conducted at the time of year when the highest water table can be expected.  See Environmental Health for more details.  

8.  What should I do if I think a person or a pet has possibly been exposed to rabies?
Any animal bite whether animal to human, or animal to animal, is a potential rabies exposure.  Report all potential exposures to the Health Department as soon as possible. See Environmental Health for more details.  

9.  I plan on selling food at a fair in Somerset County this summer.  Will I need a license?
Yes, all temporary food service vendors including non-profit organizations, planning on selling food in Somerset County must obtain a license prior to the event.  All temporary food service vendors must ensure safe food handling practices.  See Environmental Health for fees and details.
