SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEMS 

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR NEW SEPTIC

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT SEPTIC

New or Initial Septic System Application and Approval Process:
1.  Make sure your property has an approved perc test .  Then a septic system permit must be applied for prior to installing a new septic system.  Fill out sewage and water permits application.

2.  With the application, include a scaled site plan on 8 1/2" x 11" paper with the follow items.  For your convenience, you may submit your site plans in advance and have them approved prior to your need for permits.

  • Identification of site including Tax Map, Block, Parcel number and subdivision name with Section, Block, and Lot numbers.
  • Proposed well site.
  • 10,000 sq. ft. minimum Sewage Reserve Area.
  •  Proposed dwelling, or any other planned permanent structures, and driveway location.

The site plan may be done by a surveyor or the property owner.  It must be accurate for your proposed building site and signed and dated by the property owner.

3.  Make check payable to Somerset County Health Department for applicable fees according to the fee table.

4.  The Director of Somerset Co. Environmental Health Section will evaluate previous lot evaluation (perc test) results, the permit application, and the site plan.

Your site plan and application will be reviewed and may involve a visit to the property.  Allow 10 days for review.

Provided all information is complete and accurate, the Director will specify septic system requirements on the permit.

If approved, permits will be mailed to you.  Incomplete or inadequate site plans or application will result in a delay in the issuance of your permits.

Note:  Once the installation has been completed, the Health Department must inspect the system before it may be covered.

Continue to new septic application available to be printed and mailed in with applicable fee and be processed.


Repair or Replacement Septic System Application and Approval Process:
1.  A repair or replacement permit must be applied for before any work is performed on an existing septic system.

2.  With the application include a check payable to the Somerset Co. Health Dept. with the applicable fees according the the fee table.

3.  An inspector will conduct a site visit consisiting of, but not limited to, a soil profile and an inspection of this and neighboring parcels.

4.  The Director of the Environmental Health Section will evaluation any previous information on the subject property and the findings from the site visit.  The Director will then specify septic system requirements on the permit.

5.  If approved, permits will be mailed to you.

Note:  Once the installation has been completed, the Health Department must inspect the system before it may be covered.
