Migrant Program

The migrant population is a transient group. During the summer months, there are approximately 1100 farm workers and their family that settle in Somerset County. The Somerset County Health Department provides services such as family planning, pregnancy testing , screening and treatment for sexually transmitted disease , TB and other communicable disease services , immunizations , drug and alcohol counseling , prenatal education and post partum home visiting. Staff conducts daily camp visits to triage for health problems and provides linkage to medical care follow up services. Disease prevention and health promotion education is provided individually or in a group setting. Translators/interpreters are hired to meet the bilingual needs.
Eligible children are referred to WIC and the Maryland Children's Health Program .
