Pet Care:

Pets are not allowed into shelters. Prior to evacuation to a shelter plan accordingly for care of your pet. Discuss various options available with your veterinarian .

A helpful website is the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)

 


Disaster Home Supply List

FOOD - 3 DAY SUPPLY

Ready to eat canned meats, pastas, fruits, fish, vegetables, canned juices, peanut butter, crackers, jelly, and staples (salt, pepper, sugar)

WATER - STORE IN PLASTIC BOTTLES

One gallon of water per person per day

SANITATION

  • toilet paper
  • hand sanitizer
  • personal hygiene items
  • plastic garbage bags
  • disinfectant
  • plastic bucket with a tight lid (use a a port-a-potty)
  • household chlorine bleach
  • large trash container

TOOLS & SUPPLIES

  • battery operated radio/extra batteries
  • paper cups, plates, plastic utensils
  • paper towels
  • flashlight/extra batteries
  • manual can opener
  • knife
  • matches

CLOTHING & BEDDING

  • at least one change of clothes/shoes
  • blankets/sleeping bag
  • sturdy shoes
  • rain gear

FIRST AID KIT

  • bandages, scissors, tape
  • moist towelettes
  • painkillers (motrin, aspirin, tylenol)
  • antacids
  • laxatives
  • antihistamines
  • prescriptions, insulin, denture needs, eyeglasses

Shelter Checklist

  • Change of Clothes for several days for each person, include jacket/raincoat
  • Personal items (such as towel, washcloth, soap, sanitary pads/tampax, toothbrush/denture supplies, glasses)
  • All medications & medical supplies, indlude all diabetic supplies (syringes, glucometer) as well as inhalers & nebulizers
  • Food (snacks available but no meals during first 24 hours of shelter opening)
  • Blanket, pillow, sleeping bag for each person
  • Flashlight & batteries
  • Battery radio & batteries
  • Emergency contact phone numbers
