Dental Sealant Program (443) 523-1740
The Somerset County Health Department, in cooperation with the Somerset County Public Schools and TLC Dental Center (www.tlccs.org ) , is offering a FREE preventative dental health program. All 2 nd, 5 th, and 8 th grade students in Somerset County Public Schools are eligible to participate.
This program consists of a screening by a dentist or dental hygienist and application of dental sealants to the permanent molars, if indicated.
Sealants (http://www.cdc.gov/Oral Health/publications/factsheets/sealants_faq.htm)are a liquid plastic applied to the chewing surfaces of permanent molars. They aid in cavity prevention by sealing out food and bacteria that may cause tooth decay. They are safe, effective, and approved by the American Dental Association. If applied in a private dentist’s office, they may cost as much as $90 per tooth.
The procedure involves only a screening, not a complete dental exam, and is not intended to take the place of your child’s regular dental check-ups.
Parental consent is required to participate in the Dental Sealant Program. If you have any questions, please contact Barbara Parsons, R.N. at (443) 523-1766.
